6 Benefits of Traveling Solo

Hey!

My name is Pauline, I am 20 years old and from Germany. I am a second year student in the Netherlands and I am currently in Thailand for one Semester. Here I will share my experiences of studying and traveling in Thailand. In this post I will talk about 6 benefits of traveling solo. Traveling with your family or closest friends might be a lot of fun but trust me: you will experience the biggest adventure when you are traveling alone. You will come back as a completely different and happier person!

1.   You will meet the greatest People

People tend to meet less new people if they are traveling in a group because they already have a friend to sightsee or go to a bar with. It's super easy to make new friends when you're on your own and who knows? Maybe you will keep these friends for a lifetime. You will never be alone!

2.   You will improve your Language Skills

If one of the goals of your trip is to learn a foreign language, the best way to accomplish is to travel alone. If you are traveling with friends, you are more likely to communicate your native tongue only. You can improve your English (if English isn't your native tongue), you might learn the local language or even the language of other travelers.

3.   Step out of your Comfort Zone completely

Of course there will be some difficult situations on your trip, where you will have to face your fears and weaknesses. Orientation is your weakness? You are shy and hate to approach people? You will learn to overcome your fears and experience things you never considered to be possible.

4. Have Time for Yourself get to know Yourself better

Discover yourself. You can walk around for hours and nobody will interrupt your thoughts. Spending a lot of time on your own makes you get to know yourself better because you will be, sooner or later, forced to deal with yourself. Who are you? What do you want in life?

5. Everything is up to You

Another advantage of traveling alone is that you don't have to compromise and you can be completely selfish when it comes to your destinations. You can do all activities you want to do, because there is nobody else with other plans and you can avoid endless discussions and fights.

 6. You will become more Grateful

If you leave everything that is important to you like your family, your closest friends and your home behind you for a while, you will appreciate it a lot more when you come finally come back home.
